Kabale, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The State Minister for Trade Industry and Cooperatives, David Kwesiga Bahati and Kabale district local leaders are in a fight over utilization of shilling’s 1 billion road fund.

Kabale is among districts that received shillings 1 billion to fund the rehabilitation of roads during 2023/2024 financial year.

However, Bahati has come out to demand explanations as to why money was released and there is no work done on the ground.  Bahati cites an example of Nyombe-rwenkorongo road that connects Rubaya-Kahungye and Butanda sub counties which is in a sorry state.

The State Minister accuses district councilors for failure to advocate for rehabilitation of roads in sorry state but spend time on other non important issues. Bahati has threatened to hold public meetings in communities so that district leaders explain to the public where bouts of the money and reasons why roads are not being rehabilitated.

But in his response, Nshangabasheija accuses Bahati for not considering the challenge of delayed release of the funds.  He says there is no reason for Bahati to go on ground accusing councilors but should always lobby from central government in time.

Boaz Kakuru, Kabale District Planning Officer attributes the delay to start road works to heavy rains that happened early this year. He however calls for calm saying that all roads in plan shall be worked on.

During the council session last week, Nelson Nshangabasheija ,Kabale District LC5 Chairman faced criticism from the Speaker ,Flavia Nyinakiiza Kanagyizi for telling lies during his state of the district address.  Despite Nshangabasheija stating some of the rehabilitated roads, Kanagyizi opposed him arguing that there is nothing on ground.
