Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Kabula county Member of Parliament, James Kakooza and his driver are admitted at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital after surviving a nasty accident along Masaka – Mbarara highway.
The accident occurred around 11:00am at Lwebiteete village in Kiruhura Sub County in Kiruhura District when the MP’s vehicle Toyota Premio registration number UBB 826A rammed into a motorcycle killing pastor Enos Kishokye a resident of Nyakahita in Nyakasharara sub county
Two people identified as David Byamugisha and John Ngumikiriza, both residents of Lwebiteete village survived with serious injuries and are admitted at Lyantonde Hospital.
Eye witnesses say the legislators’ car was speeding when the accident occurred.
John Mwanje, one of the eye witnesses, says that the pastor was crossing the road to his church where he was going to lead a Sunday service, when the accident occurred.
“The Mp was rescued with serious injuries on his head. His arm was also broken. Good enough police responded in time,” said Mwanje.
Latif Zaake, the Southern Region Police Commander confirmed the accident, saying that police rushed Kakooza and his driver to Mbarara hospital where they are currently hospitalized.
He attributes the accident to speeding by the legislator’s driver, saying that he would have saved the motorcyclist if he was not speeding.
The wreckage has been towed to Lyantonde police station as investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
