Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The MTN Omondi stadium, home of Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club- KCCA FC, will have floodlights before end of this current season of the Star-Times Uganda Premier League.
This is one of the key perks KCCA FC will get from their new principal shirt sponsor CHINT Electric in a three-year deal announced in a brief function at Mestil Hotel in Kampala on Monday. CHINT Electronics replaces SEE TV, KCCA FC’s previous shirt sponsor whose contract was prematurely terminated last week.
KCCA FC Chief Executive Officer Anisha Muhoozi said this is expected to boost the number of fans who watch their games because night football is more conducive for people who are fixed during the day.
Uganda Premier League is rarely played at night because of a shortage in the number of stadia with floodlights. Only the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole has floodlights at the moment. Muhoozi, however, said that the floodlights will not come in an instant, but expects them to be done by the kickoff of the second round.
Muhoozi added that they have already engaged the league secretariat to make changes in the schedules of their fixtures to allow them to host games at night. “We have already started on these engagements, even the league sponsor welcomed this development, so I know they will join us in this”, she said
Sherry Shi, the Managing Director of CHINT, said the partnership comes after long-time engagements between them and KCCA FC. “It’s with great joy to have KCCA FC on board, this is really a result of talks that started in 2018 when they knocked on our door, I was hesitant that this deal may not bear good fruits but the team has convinced me that it will be a good one”, she said.
CHINT, founded in 1984, is a global provider of smart energy solutions with operations in over 140 countries and a comprehensive industry chain that includes power generation, storage, transmission, substations, distribution, sales, and consumption.
They join other sponsors on the team including MTN which carries the Stadium naming rights, Britam which is their Insurance Partner, Mpatanel which is the Warm-up kit sponsor among others.
