Muhoozi hails new Brigadier Generals for contribution to nation’s defence

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has said the new Brigadier Generals have set the bar high for their juniors. Muhoozi who was the chief decorator at the promotion event at Mbuya said promotion is a sign of recognition for a job well done.

“I commend you for this deserving promotion,” Muhoozi said. “It is a recognition of your significant contributions to the nation’s defence and a testament to your potential. Your ability to navigate challenging situations has set a high benchmark for your followers.”

A fortnight ago, President Yoweri Museveni who is also the commander in chief of all armed forces promoted 918 military officers include five Colonels promoted to the rank of Brigadier which is the fourth highest rank in Uganda military hierarchy.

In Museveni’s new promotion of military personnel, three Acting Colonels were confirmed to the rank, 15 Lieutenant Colonels were promoted to Colonel, and three Acting Lieutenant Colonels were also confirmed to the rank.

Ten Majors were promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, 63 Captains were promoted to the rank of Major, 155 Lieutenants were promoted to Captain while 650 2ND Lieutenant Colonels were promoted to full Lieutenant.

At the promotion event, Brig Gen Wilberforce Sserunkuma, who is the most senior among those decorated, expressed gratitude to Gen Muhoozi for recommending them to the Commander-in-Chief for promotion.

“I would like to appreciate your recommendation to the Commander in Chief for our promotion,” Brig Sserunkuma said. “We acknowledge the increased responsibility that comes with our new ranks. I urge my colleagues with who we have been promoted today to demonstrate greater determination and zeal in serving our country.”

In attendance was Lt Gen Sam Okiding who is the deputy CDF, Commander of Land Forces Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, Commander Air force Lt Gen Okidi, and Chief of Joint Staff Maj Gen l Jack Bakasumba.
