Mukono, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Mukono District Council has passed a resolution to hire Buikwe District Service Commission to recruit staff as they wait for their own. The resolution was passed on Thursday during a council session.
Asuman Muhumuza, the Mukono District Vice Chairperson, moved a motion to seek assistance from the Buikwe District. He said that there is a need for external support in the meantime as the district explores the possibility of establishing its commission.
During the meeting, councilors first considered various options for hiring the services of the service commission of Wakiso, Kayunga, Buvuma, and Buikwe.
When the matter was put to vote, 33 councilors, seconded the motion, while three were against it arguing that it contradicted existing laws.
Mukono District Council Speaker, Betty Hope Nakasi highlighted the urgent need to bridge the employment gap within the district and urged the council members to prioritize the interests of the community.
During the council meeting in 2022, Rev. Bakaluba tried to present the names of nominees to the district service commission. These included Gerald Muguluma Kiraga as the chairperson and Stella Margret Kiondo and Edward William Kisimagwa as members.
The councilors rejected the nominees and tasked the LCV Chairperson to explain the procedures that he used to select the nominees. They accused him of trying to fill up the commission with his supporters.
As a result, the LCV Chairperson withdrew the nominees and promised to come up with new names and instead came up with a proposal to hire services of the Commissions from the neighboring districts.
