Opposition Uganda People’s Congress does not see the imprisonment of Former State minister for health, currently the Soroti Municipality Member of Parliament Capt. Mike Mukula as a fight against corruption but a show.
Prof. Lutalo Bbosa the UPC Vice President said on Wednesday during the weekly party press conference that Museveni wants to show the international organizations that Uganda is serious about corruption.
“The imprisonment is to serve the purpose that Mukula is punished for his “sins” and also Museveni wants to show that Uganda is serious about corruption” he said.
Bbosa added that UPC sees this as a cynical application of legal process and systems because it is serving other purposes.
“For sure Mukula will appeal and he will be out in a mean time” he said.
Chief Magistrate Irene Akankwasa acquitted Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi and Dr Alex Kamugisha over charges of causing financial loss, abuse of office and embezzlement, citing no incriminating evidence by the prosecution.
While Mike Mukula was convicted and sentenced four years in Luzira prison for embezzling sh210m from Global Alliance Vaccination for Immunization (GAVI ) account where over 1.6bn shillings was lost in the scam.
