Museveni: There will be no Yiira Republic in Kasese

Museveni advised the Kasese leader to instead work positively to create unity among the people at home as well as those living across the borders who have similar linkages and advise them to rout-out the ADF’s and the Interhamwe’s for everlasting peace to prevail in the area.

“Why do you want to isolate our people who are scattered everywhere? You should work positively to bring our people who include the Bamba, Banyoro called Batuku in Congo, Alur and Lugbaras by creating unity,” he counseled.

President Museveni reminded the FDC leadership of the role of leaders at all levels of getting people out of poverty through adopting modern commercial farming especially in the rural areas.

He emphasized the issue of enterprise selection coupled with thorough calculation for better results.

Museveni defended what some FDC leaders called unnecessary arrests adding that there is incriminating evidence against some of the culprits arrested and advised leaders not to cover up anybody involved be it on the governments side or the criminals for further investigations.

“I would appeal to you to hand in all those involved in these acts.

Don’t cover up anybody. These people will not learn to respect life. They will do it knowing that they will get political support. Here we should demand for a strict accountability surrounding the recent killings in Rwenzori region because wanainchi are vulnerable they cannot defend themselves,” he noted.

He noted that those hatching the Yiira Republic an idea are lost people, daydreamers, enemies of peace who don’t love the Rwenzori Region and Uganda as a whole.

The President assured the people of Kasese district that the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) is stronger than ever before and has increased its presence in the Rwenzori region to guarantee peace and security.

“We dealt with Lakwena who had 50,000 militias, most of them armed, and the Karimojong who had 40,000 riffles. These are our children who are being abused by selfish people. We shall get in touch with them and get them out of their hiding peacefully. Unfortunately some of them have already lost their lives in this circus due to false prophets,” he said.

Museveni emphasized that traditional and cultural leaders should not be dragged into partisan politics adding that anyone doing that was their enemy and the enemy of their institutions.

“Anyone who loves cultural leaders, would not drag them into politics. I think these politicians are not their friends and they just use them for their selfish interests. I can’t drag cultural leaders into politics because it’s against me, the cultural leaders and the constitution,” he said.
