Port Elizabeth, South Africa | THE INDEPENDENT | The Uganda Crested Cranes will face Zambia’s Copper Queens this afternoon in the last Group C match at the on-going COSAFA Women’s Championship in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
Going into the game coach George William Lutalo’s team need an outright win at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium to be assured of a semi final slot.
“We know what to expect against Zambia and we also know that we need to win to qualify for the semi final. We need to be at our best because we are facing a good team,” Lutalo told Uganda Radio Network (URN). //Cue in: We have prepared well Cue out: To win the game.”// Uganda Crested Cranes started the tournament with a goalless draw against Namibia, before recovering to humble Eswatini 5-1 in the second match.
Skipper Shadia Nankya made it clear that although they know Zambia is a good side, they must approach the match like a Cup final. “We must be at our best from the start to finish,” added the skipper.
Zambia’s Coppers Queens top Group C with six points after their 5-0 win against Eswatini and a 3-0 victory against Namibia.
Florence Nkatya, the Zambian coach made it clear that facing Uganda will not be an easy task because they are an experienced team. “We need to take our chances against Uganda,” added Nkatya. The Zambia team represented the continent at the Tokyo Olympics in Japan two months ago.
Eswatini will also battle Namibia in the other Group C match to be played at the Nelson Mandela University. Meanwhile Tanzania and South Africa have already qualified for the semi-final stage. Tanzania stopped South Sudan 3-0, while the Banyana Banyana of South Africa picked a 3-1 win against Mozambique on Monday.
The semi finals will be played on October 7th, while the final and playoff take place on October 9th.
