Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | There has been some progress in the operation to retrieve MV K-Palm vessel from Lake Victoria. MV K-Palm capsized on Saturday night last week while transporting revelers from KK beach in Gaba to K-Palm beach in Mukono district.
More than 31 people are confirmed to have died and 25 others rescued from the boat accident. The Police Marine, UPDF, Works Ministry officials and local fishermen have been working since Sunday to retrieve the wreckage from the lake with the hope of finding more bodies.
This afternoon, Asuman Mugenyi, the Director Operations Uganda Police Force told journalists that they have been able to pull the wreckage from the underneath the Lake using MV Kalangala.
He says they are now exploring options to pull the wreckage from the Lake to the mainland since it is now in the right position. According to Mugenyi, they have several options like towing the wreckage to the shores, dragging it by ship to Port bell or cutting it into two pieces.
According to Mugenyi, they suspect that some of the boat accident victims could be stuck in the rooms on the boat. Meanwhile three families have showed up tracing for their relatives suspected to have been on the vessel.
Those said to be missing are Peter Kakooza, a resident of Masaka District, Sylvia Namutebi from Nakisunga, Godfrey Musisi from Kabalagala and Andrew Ssenyonga from Kireka in Wakiso district.
