Kalangala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | MV Kalangala will not make its return voyage to Kalangala later today and tomorrow morning because of the engine maintenance survey by the insurers following its overhaul between March 6th, 2021 and April 2nd, 2021.
The Vessel that plies between Nakiwogo in Entebbe and Lutoboka Kalangala resumed operations on April 3rd, 2021 with a testing route before being surveyed by the Ministry of Works and Transport.
The vessel has been carrying out its normal voyages from Kalangala at 8am to Nakiwogo and Nakiwogo to Kalangala at 2pm.
However, a May 4th statement from Nation Oil Distributors Limited (NODIL), which operates the ferry, says “the engine maintenance survey is a mandatory follow-up step to the recent engine overhaul, which was carried out last March 2021.”
MV Kalangala is the main vessel that plies theEntebbe and Kalangala route. The suspension of its services has a huge impact on the movement of people and goods to the island district.
The remaining vessels are small and charge a slightly higher cost compared to MV Kalangala, which charges Shillings 10,000 and 14,000 per trip for ordinary and second class passengers respectively while other canoes and engine boats charge Shillings 35,000 per trip.
