Fr. Mwebe named new Parish Priest of Lweza

Archbishop Lwanga today announced Fr Mwebe as new Parish Priest for Lweza at their Parish Day.

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Archbishop Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has named Fr. Dominic Mwebe as the new Parish Priest for Lweza. Mwebe, who is currently at Nansana, will take charge of a parish that lost long serving Parish Priest Fr John Mary Vianney Mugabo,53 early this year.

Archbishop Lwanga made the announcement at St Joseph’s Lweza Parish Day at Lweza on Sunday. The Archbishop also confirmed that Mwebe is one of only four priests given special permission to perform exorcisms in the Kampala Archdiocese. He praised him for his deep understanding of local herbal medicines.

The priests given power to perform exorcisms are Fr Athanasius Musajjakaawa, Fr Lawrence Mubiru , Msgr. Expedition Magembe and Fr Dominic Mwebe.

Mwebe’s predecessor Fr. Mugabo died in February after a short illness. He had been admitted at Nsambya Hospital, where he reportedly succumbed to cancer.

St Joseph’s Lweza Parish in Kampala Arch Diocese comprises Kajjansi, Katale, Kitende, Kitiko, Kiwamirembe, Nnazziba, Lweza and Bugema.

The Katikkiro of Buganda CP Mayiga, who is a parishioner, was chief guest as the parish celebrated 46 years of existence.

He urged parishioners to fight poverty, which he said, undermines the dignity of man. He warned them against always asking for the government to help, saying the key to their success lay in their hands through hard work.

Archbishop Lwanga asked Ugandans to emulate biblical Joseph by being humble, dedicated, just, trustworthy and hardworking. He thanked the Kitikkiro for always delivering a developmental message.

He said the church is working to having proper archives of the work of the missionaries and the Buganda leaders in the past, in the spread of literacy and religion in Uganda.

Archbishop Lwanga said Ugandans have to thank Kabaka Muteesa I for accepting the missionaries to spread the gospel of God in Buganda in the 1880s, a decision that changed the country’s history.
