The National Agricultural Advisory Services has transformed the livelihood of the rural farmers and they are doing pretty well compared to urban dwellers.
The publicist for NAADs Anthony Wanyoto while in an interview with The Independent in Coline Hotel, in Mukono on Tuesday gave an example of a farmer in Dakabela village in Soroti district whom he said earns Shs500m per year out of the sales made from her citrus fruits.”
Wanyoto says, “I am impressed on how farmers in Teso region have taken seriously the program of NAADs. They are the role models in citrus farming and this has attracted investors who have started constructing a plant that will help them make juice.”
He is optimistic that the moment this factory is completed it will provide market to farmers in Soroti and the neighbouring districts. “NAADs is sourcing for outside market where farmers can export their agricultural products,” Wanyoto added.
He says the only delay at the moment is the poor road network in Teso region because these machines cannot be transported to the site in that poor road infrastructure but at the moment government is rehabilitating the Tororo-Mbale-Soroti road.
