Nakaseke hospital gets medical supplies worth UGX 120M

Nakaseke LC 5 Chairman Ignatius Koomu,Apostle Alex Mitala and Hospital administrators with some of donated medical equipment

Nakaseke, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT |  Nakaseke hospital has received an assortment of basic medical supplies, thanks to Back to the Bible Truth Evangelistic Mission.

The medical supplies were handed over the hospital management on Monday.

They include surgical sterilizer, delivery beds, microscope, face masks, resuscitation machine and patient monitors among others. The equipment is valued at Over Shillings 120 million.

Apostle Alex Mitala, the founder of Back to the Bible Truth Evangelistic Mission-BBT Mission said they did a survey at the hospital and established that it was lacking the basic equipment, something that had affected its operations.

According to Mitala, they sourced the donated equipment from the United States Army to help improve service delivery at the facility.

Mariam Kaberuka, the chairperson Nakaseke Hospital Management Committee welcomed the donation, saying it is timely because some of the equipment at the facility is faulty and obsolete.

She explained that the only microscope at the facility is faulty whereas the sterilizer was inadequate. Kaberuka also explained that government delivered substandard delivery beds in 2015, which were rejected by local leaders and have never been replaced.

Janet Namakula, a patient found at the facility told URN that she was disappointed when she was turned away by the laboratory technician on grounds that the microscope was faulty.

Namakula said she was happy to see BBT mission donating a new microscope.

Nakaseke LC V Chairperson, Ignatius Koomu Kiwanuka, said the medical equipment was a great relief and cautioned staff against poor use.

Nakaseke receives  Shillings 73 million for its operational costs each quarter. The facility handles 6000 patients and 300 deliveries each month.

The Hospital last received major medical supplies from government in 2015. However, most of the equipment has broken down because of low quality. Government with support from World Bank injected about Shillings 17.6 billion for renovating and equipping of the hospital in 2015.

The construction works included the renovation of the existing facilities and construction of additional blocks. Yanjian Company Limited completed the refurbishments works and handed over the facility to Nakaseke Hospital management in September 2015.
