Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Inspector General of Police (IGP) John Martins Okoth-Ochola has told media managers to knock on his door as often as possible in order to give the country an all round view of developments related to his force.
“Our doors are always open therefore as we handle matters of the state, we don’t need one side blackmailing. We need to engage ourselves,embrace positive reporting,follow the ethics of journalism, respect, integrity, professionalism so that you succeed in life,” the new IGP said.
Okoth-Ochola met news editors and managers of various media houses at Police Headquarters Naguru on Wednesday. According to a police statement, the meeting was convened to address complains of bad working relationship between the media and the police in line with their duty.
IGP Okoth-Ochola thanked the media industry for the great contribution towards the country’s development.
The meeting was attended by deputy IGP Sabiiti, current and former spokesmen Emilian Kayima and Asan Kasingye
Ochola expressed the need for coexistence and cooperation between the police and media fraternity. He assured the journalists that the IGP’s office is open and that the media players should not wait for situations to occur and begin to lament and accuse the Force.
