The National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U) in partnership with the Uganda Business Process Outsourcing Association (UBPOA) are organizing a three day regional BPO Leadership Conference from 18 to 20, September 2013 at the Serena Hotel, Kampala.
This is the third BPO conference to be held in Uganda. The theme for this year’s conference is: “optimising BPO for competitiveness”.
The conference will also mark the official launch of the BPO incubation Centre, at Statistics House, a critical milestone in the development of the sector.
“We strongly believe that this will play a strong role in the development and transformation of the use of ICT in business innovation and competitiveness,” James Saake, the Executive Director at NITA-U told a news conference on Sept. 9 in Kampala.
The forum will bring together visionaries from Government, Services Providers (IT & BPO) and leading buyer dignitaries. In addition, a delegation from India NASSCOM (leading in BPO) will also be attending and sharing their experiences in the transformation of India into a global leading BPO center.
The forum aims at setting up an infrastructural network that can support the BPO Industry in Uganda, marketing Uganda as a preferred BPO destination within the region, establishing partnerships with the private sector among others.
“The conference is intended to find solutions to create better understanding of the potential of BPO in addressing some of the pertinent issues like increasing youth unemployment and development of SMEs in Uganda as a key driver of growth and development,’’ Saaka explained.
NITA has carried out a number of initiatives that include setting up of the training and incubation center at Statistics House that has already trained over 500 Ugandans in ICT.
