NRM launches manifesto for 2016-2021

President Yoweri Museveni in his capacity as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flag-bearer, has launched the party manifesto for the period 2016-2021. While launching the manifesto at Imperial Royale Hotel Kampala, Museveni outlined the NRM ideology as one based on Patriotism and Pan-Africanism and encouraged party cadres to work hard and modernise Uganda through job creation and inclusive development.

Museveni said party leaders should be able to diagnose wrong ideologies such as sectarianism which continue to divide people and those in countries such as Yemen, Syria and Iraq. Museveni added that the NRM manifesto is the roadmap of Uganda on its journey of attaining middle income status.

He took a swipe at fellow presidential candidate and former NRM Secretary General Amama Mbabazi for leading a group called “Go Forward” and said it is only NRM that is going forward because of the liberation of the masses it started.

He advised leaders to shun the practice of exchanging gifts and money for votes saying it encourages selfishness and unaccountability.

“NRM will now embark on addressing the strategic goals for prosperity to happen and these are; security, Health, roads, electricity, educations and creating jobs among others.” Museveni said as he called upon Dr Kisamba Mugerwa, the Chairman of the National Planning Authority to explain the implementation of the manifesto to hundreds of NRM members.

The event was also attended by First Lady Janet Museveni, Vice President Edward Sekandi and Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda.
