Bundibugyo, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The leadership of Obudingiya Bwa Bwamba-OBB in Bundibugyo district has asked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to fulfil the pledges he made to their cultural leader Omudhingiya, retired Col. Martin Ayongi Kamya. In 2014, the government recognized Kamya, the son of Edward Kawamara, one of the founders of the Rwenzururu Movement as the first King of the Obudhingiya Bwa Bwamba.

During his installation, President Museveni pledged to provide an official car, security detail and construct a palace for the Omundhingiya. But the kingdom prime minister Wilson Mubulya says that seven years down the road, none of the promises has materialized.

The premier says the absence of an official car for the king has limited his movement to reach his subjects. He also says that the king needs detailed security like all other cultural leaders for his safety.

Mubulya also asks the president to support the kingdom to construct a modern palace for proper administration.   He also wants the government to give the OBB special consideration under the Operation Wealth Creation program.

Bwambale Tedson Mugabe, an OBB village chief says that the king needs to move with his entourage but can’t do so due to absence of transport means.

Sulaiman Bamwitira, a chief from Kirindi Harugali sub county told URN that whenever the king has a journey, they have to locally mobilise resources to hire vehicles to take him and his entourage. He says they have made repeated reminders to the office of the president about this pledge without success.

Benjamin Balisuka from Bubukwanga sub county says that the King is supposed to move with his ministers and royal guards but this doesn’t happen due to the absence of vehicles. He says the King cannot ably move between the two palaces.

While meeting members of the OBB, the deputy coordinator OWC, Lt. Gen. Charles Angina committed to present their concerns to the president. Angina also says that the kingdom will be supported to benefit from the parish development model.
