⚽ AFCON 2021 qualifying result
⏺ Burkina Faso 🇧🇫 0 Uganda Cranes 🇺🇬 0
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso | THE INDEPENDENT & CAF-ONLINE | The Johnathan McKinstry era as Uganda Cranes coach started Wednesday with a precious draw away from home to Burkina Faso.
The home side was constantly in attack but their blunt strike force was to blame for failing to take maximum use of their home ground advantage.
Lassina Traore came closest for the home side when his goal-bound effort was cleared off the line by Bevis Mugabi in the fifth minute with keeper Dennis Onyango well beaten. They had another chance with a free-kick from good scoring range but Charles Kabore sent the set piece over the bar.
In the second half Uganda almost snatched the game off Burkina’s eyes but Emmanuel Okwi’s thumping header from a Faruku Miya corner rattled the crossbar.
Uganda will be at their Namboole shrine for match day two where they take on Malawi on Sunday while Burkina Faso will be away to South Sudan in Khartoum.
In other games, Gambia started their 2021 Total African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on a resounding note, coming from a goal down to beat Angola 3-1 on Wednesday while Samuel Kalu scored the winner in the 62nd minute as Nigeria’s Super Eagles came from a goal down to beat Benin 2-1.
