Oulanyah hails Golola for elevating kickboxing

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah has pledged to support the transformation of the Golola talent academy to help nurture kickboxing and other sports among youths.

He made the pledge while hosting Moses Golola who emerged victor at a no-title challenge fight at Freedom City at parliament on Tuesday. Golola who was accompanies by his manager, Innocent Kawoota presented his championship belt to the Speaker.

Oulanyah hailed Golola for his dedication and hard work in promoting Kickboxing in Uganda and congratulated him on his recent victory against Umar Semata in what Golola has described as the fight of the Century.

Oulanyah who watched clips of the match, said Golola’s hard work of waking up in the wee hours of the morning to train has finally paid off. He said Golola who is also his personal trainer is a kind family man but also loves to inspire young people.

Oulanyah said that they have set up some programs with Golola to hold regional activities to ensure that more youths are involved in sports activities. He says his plans are to make a proper academy through transforming the Golola Training Academy, which is found in Bwaise in Kamapala district, where people can be trained, accommodated and change their lives.

On his part, Golola said he has worked hard for this and is determined to take the competition much higher. He thanked the Speaker for being his supporter and partner in building Kickboxing.

Golola, known for building his own personal brand, has a huge fan base and has been credited for popularizing Kickboxing in Uganda.  In February 2011, Golola defeated South Sudanese Abdul Qadir Rahim in a fight that attracted a huge attendance.

In December 2011, light heavyweight Andras Nagy defeated Golola at a match held at Hotel Africana.  However, Golola Moses was controversially handed the title.
