Pader, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Pader district council has approved the giveaway of Agora ranch land measuring 500 acres to Uganda Investment Authority-UIA, for the construction of an industrial park that will be named after the late Deputy Inspector General of Police-DiGP, Lt. Gen Paul Lokech.

The district LC V chairperson, Rtd. Col Obwoya Fearless tabled the motion during the council meeting on Wednesday chaired by the speaker, Ottober Wellborn Odia, to allocate the land to UIA, and was seconded by his finance, planning and administration secretary Lawino Nancy.

While tabling the motion, Obwoya revealed that his office, the Resident District Commissioner, Chief Administrative Officer and the members of the executive committee member, the State Minister for Investment Anita Evelyn, approached the district asking for land for the government to set up an industrial park which will be named Gen Lokech.

The Ongom sub county councillor Richard Olal Ojok welcomed the proposal. He however objected to allocating the land to private investors until the district puts in place a land policy. John Chris Anywar Mugisha, the Ajan sub-county LC V councillor called for the establishment of the Adhoc Committee to draft land policy and present it to the council for approval.

The council unanimously approved the motion. Pader Chief Administrative Officer Chelimo Alex commended the district council for the decision, saying his office will immediately inform the government.

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Okee Dusman also gave a standing ovation to the council for accepting to allocate land to UIA, saying that the government is committed to developing the Industrial park which will create jobs for young people in the district.
