Parliament vets Edward Akol, Mugisha Tumusiime and Patrick Wabwire

Akol faced parliament’s vetting committee Thursday

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Appointments Committee of Parliament vetted the Auditor General-designate, Edward Akol. Sources in the Committee chaired by the Speaker of Parliament, Annette Anita Among say they overwhelmingly recommended that the President appoint Edward Akol for the job.

Akol is expected to replace Uganda’s long-serving Auditor General, John F S Muwanga. John Muwanga has been at the Auditor General’s office since 2001. He is retiring from office having clocked the mandatory retirement.

The Office of the Auditor General is the Supreme Audit Institution of the Republic of Uganda, mandated by the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, 1995 to produce reliable and high-quality reports.

It is supposed to ensure the promotion of e good governance, transparency, and effective accountability in the management and use of public resources.

Edward Akol has risen through the ranks at the Office of the Auditor General to earn himself the President’s appointment to head the institution. He has served as the Director of Audit and Assistant Auditor General in charge of Audit. He has served at the Office of Auditor General since August 1994.

CPA Edward Akol has been the Auditor General’s representative to the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU)

The Speaker of Parliament, Annette Anita Among confirmed that the Appointments Committee which she chairs met and vetted Edward Akol for appointment as Auditor General.

The Committee also vetted Linda Lillian Mugisha Tumusiime for appointment as judge and Anthony Patrick Wabwire for appointment to the Industrial Court this morning.

“The committee’s report will be transmitted to the appointing authority as dictated by the rules,” said Anita Among .
