Tororo, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Vice President Maj (Rtd) Jessica Alupo has urged leaders in Tororo district to focus on implementing programmes to improve roads, water and wealth creation that unite the common person, and move away from politics of divison. The Vice President said this August 7 at grand celebrations by Jopadhola at Achilet in Tororo to mark the Silver Jubilee (25 years) of the coronation of Kwar Adhola Moses Stephen Owor. She represented President Yoweri Museveni.

“We should concentrate on what transforms the Bukedi region,” she said. She revealed that they have agreed to have joint meeting of MPs, so that they resolve all the issues on roads, hospitals and request for a city status as raised by the Tororo LC5 John Okeya and Prime Minister (Jago) Obbo Richard Josel of the Tieng Adhola Cultural Institution (TACI). “Instead of people going to media and the streets, dialogue should take precedence. The solutions to our challenges should come from oursleves,” Alupo remarked.

The Jago had said that Tororo was one of the 13 original regional headquarters that existed in this country. He said all the other 12 are cities today, except Tororo. “We have been informed that a person has written to the Minister of Local Government, as a leader here, purporting that we do not want a city here. This is our Jerusalem, we cannot have anyone else talk on our behalf,” the Jago said. He also said Bukedi was one of the only regions in the country without a referral hospital, with patients seeking services in Mbale.

Kwar Adhola Moses Owor, 98, thanked President Museven for the guidance he gave him 25 years ago at his coronation, which advice, has helped him steer Padhola successfully. He also hailed the President for acknolwedging  that Jopadhola can also serve this country in various places. He mentioned top appointments, that include Oboth Oboth, Ofwono Opondo and Tanga Odoi in government and the NRM party, Okoth Ochola in security and Prof Charles Olweny in the eduction sector.
