Police arrest gang leader behind attack on Chief Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga confirmed report.

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Directorate of Crime Intelligence has arrested the suspected leader of a gang that attacked Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu. Police spokesperson Fred Enanga has identified the suspect as Brian Mulizi.

According to Enanga, police picked up the suspect from his hideout in Mbale district. “We were able to track down this gang leader who was elusive for this while, using our advanced surveillance technology, who was found hiding in Mbale district” said Enanga.

He says that upon interrogations, police realized that Mulizi together with Aloysius Ssewakiryanga, Marvin Bankunda, Vincent Dumba and Yusuf Tugume were behind the attack on the Magistrate and several other incidents in Kampala.

Last month, unidentified thugs attacked Kamasanyu outside the gate of Green Hill Academy and made off with her belongings including a mobile phone and handbag among other valuables.

The thugs who were riding on three motorbikes allegedly trailed the magistrate as she went to collect the Primary Leaving Examination results for her child from the school. By the time the school guards opened the gate, the thugs had already taken off leaving the magistrate bleeding from the injuries she sustained in the attack.

Over the past few months, unidentified thugs riding on motorcycles have been targeting different streets of Kampala. On June 15, 2021, an unidentified thugs killed Naboth Mpeirwe, a Biology and Chemistry teacher at the baseball Court of Kyambogo University. They hit him with a blunt object on the head leaving him unconscious. He bled to death.
