Police foil DP Youths protests

Kampala, Uganda | Aloysious Kasoma | Police deployed heavily around  Democratic Party offices following protests from youths of the Uganda Young Democrats  protesting around the city over the corruption scandals in the office of the Prime Minister.

The group of more than 30 youths from different universities was led by Shaban Senkubuge the former Makerere University Guild President and UYD Vice President were intercepted by Police and arrested immediately before the crowd joined them.


The group was arrested with placards calling upon the people in the office of the Prime Minister to resign chanting Bigirimana, Mbabazi and others to go.

Police confiscated most of the placards and raided DP offices where they arrested other youths.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Idi Bin Ssenkumbi they have arrested eight youths and they had not formally contacted the Police.

“We got information that there was a group of youths who wanted to cause confusion and deployed police personnel. They wanted to incite the public and we are carrying out an investigation. Right now they are making statements” he said

Among the arrested include Vianne Ndugga, Waiswa Mufumbira, Paul Sembajjwe, Shaban Ssenkubuge,  Lukanga Martins, Gerard Siranda, Waiswa Latin, Isma Kayima and Bwogi Nathan
