KAMPALA, UGANDA | THE INDEPENDENT | The Kiira Regional Police Command has launched an intensive manhunt for a gang of armed and dangerous robbers who attacked Praise God Hardware Shop in Buwenge, Jinja District, on Friday.
During the incident, the assailants shot and killed Bumali Mbadi, the owner of the shop, and injured another man identified as Eric Matege, along with several customers who were present at the time.
The robbers fled with an unspecified amount of money. According to Kiira Region Police spokesperson SP James Mubi, the victims were customers who had come to purchase hardware items when the robbers struck.
Mbadi’s body has been taken to the Jinja Regional Referral Hospital mortuary, while Matege is currently receiving specialized treatment at the same hospital. The Buwenge Division Police Commander, SP Morris Oyee, said officers responded promptly to the scene upon receiving reports of the robbery.
He confirmed that a cartridge was recovered and has since been sent to the Government Analytical Laboratory (GAL) in Kampala for ballistic analysis by firearm experts. “We are appealing to members of the public to volunteer any information that can assist in the arrest of these criminals,” SP Mubi said, urging anyone with leads to report to Buwenge Police Station or the Kiira Regional Police Headquarters.
