Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Kampala Metropolitan traffic has launched a hunt for a driver who knocked dead a cyclist on along Entebbe Road on Friday morning.
Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said Patrick Sserwanga was hit by car Toyota Mark II with registration number UBF 365C.
The incident according to Owoyesigyire happened near Rwasa Bar at around 5 am when a speeding driver smashed Sserwanga who was riding a motorcycle registration number plate UDW 518P.
The driver fled and abandoned the vehicle at the scene. Traffic police from Entebbe impounded the vehicle and it is currently parked at Entebbe Police Station. Police said they would use vehicle particulars to identify the driver.
Of recent, several accidents have occurred in Kampala Metropolitan leaving scores dead or injured.
Three weeks ago, a Sino Truck UAX 485M lost control at Ntinda Kiwatule Road and rammed into other motorists and cyclists.
Meanwhile another cyclist has been killed in an accident at Nkumba in Katabi Town Council.
The accident occurred at 4.30 pm at the traffic Junction at Nkumba. According to eyewitnesses, a truck registration number UAT 372H which was carrying sand lost control and rammed into six Boda Boda cyclists killing one identified as Luyimbaazi.
Two cyclists were also injured. They include Charles Kasirye and Kassim Lubambula all residents of Katabi town council.
