Police hunts for 11 year old boy for pouring acid on businessman

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Kira road division police is hunting for an 11-year-old boy accused of pouring acid on a businessman, Shafik Agaba.

Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, said the unidentified boy approached Agaba’s shop at around 9:30 pm on Sunday holding a jug containing liquid.

Agaba, who was inside the shop moved closure to inquire on what the boy wanted from the shop. However the child poured the liquid on him.

Enanga says that Agaba was burnt on the arm and part of the head. The boy fled as Agaba screamed for help.

Residents later alerted police that rushed Agaba to Naguru hospital where he is currently receiving treatment for the sustained acid burns.

Preliminary investigations, according to Enanga, indicate that boy could have been hired by former husband to Agaba’s wife.

Agaba had earlier indicated that his wife’s former husband was sending him death threats in form texts, calls and confrontation.

Kira road police have since teamed with Kyebando police to hunt for the boy.

Enanga said that residents had earlier seen the boy in area but they were yet to get the boy’s particulars about his parents, residence and name.

Police have already sent a team to trace for the former husband to Agaba’s wife in order to understand whether he could have hired the minor to pour acid on Agaba.

Agaba’s incident comes exactly one month after Kawempe division police arrested, Ronald Musisi, for allegedly pouring acid on his wife, Harriet Najjuma, leading to her death.

The deceased and her friend were attacked with acid by unknown people at Kawempe B zone in the evening hours. Najjuma and other victim were rushed to Kiruddu hospital, Makindye Division, in Kampala where Najjuma succumbed to acid injuries a few days later.
