Police impersonator arrested in Busia

Busia, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Busia police are holding a man accused of masquerading as one of them. The suspect is Godfrey Wasike, a resident of Mbaale village in Masaba sub-county.

Police also accuse Wasike of deploying himself at Buhehe police station in Buhehe sub-county, illegal possession of two pairs of police uniforms, boots and a military safari mattress among others.

Charles Wanyama Hasuben, the Buhehe sub-county LC 3 chairperson says that the suspect deployed himself on October 10, 2021. He explains that upon arrival at Buhehe police station, the suspect claimed that the Busia District Police Commander had deployed him.

He however says that the suspect could neither tell his police number nor disclose his previous workstation. He says that the suspect was also unable to write in the police diary, which raised suspicion prompting them to inquire with the DPC.

Wanyama says that the DPC denied knowledge of the suspect leading to his arrest.

Didas Byaruhanga, the Busia District Police Commander-DPC confirmed the arrest of the suspect, saying that they are still recording his statement. He says that the suspect will appear in court for impersonation once their inquiries are complete.

The suspect was still in custody at Busia central police station by the time of filling this story as investigations were still ongoing.
