Police in Masindi arrest man for killing father

Masindi, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police in Masindi are holding Nelson Okecha 28, a resident of Nyakabaale village in Kibibira parish in Kiruli sub-county, for allegedly killing his father.

The deceased has been identified as Mansi Omwoch 68, the Local Council One Chairperson of Nyakabaale village.

According to the police, on Saturday at around 1:30 pm, Omwoch, organized a family meeting at his home after suspecting Oketcha of stealing solar panels.  This annoyed Okecha who picked a panga and reportedly hit and cut the father.

Omwoch died on the spot. After the incident, the suspect went into hiding.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, says, police launched a manhunt for the suspect who was arrested on Monday from Kimina village.

Meanwhile, the Police in Kagadi District are investigating circumstances under which a 19-year-old man was murdered by unknown people who later dumped his body in a banana plantation.

The deceased has been identified as Brain Wangeria, a resident of Kaiso LCI, Nyakabamba Sub County in Kagadi district. The incident happened on Sunday night.

Hakiza, says that efforts to hunt for the suspects are ongoing.
