Police investigate death of 62-year-old woman in Kitgum

Kitgum, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Police in Kitgum district have launched an investigation into circumstances that led to the death of a 62-year-old woman.

Margaret Acayo’s body was found at about 3 am on Wednesday, 100 meters from her home in Paibwor North village, in Labongo Layamo Sub-county.

Local leaders reported that Acayo attended a party organized by a cash-round group in her village Tuesday evening till the wee hours of the night before her death.

Thomas Ayella Situmba, the Labongo Layamo Sub-County Chairperson told URN in an interview that the deceased had left her home earlier on Tuesday to attend the party while in good health.

Ayella noted that the body was discovered by her colleagues who were on their way home after attending the same party.

Peter Oyesigye, the Kitgum District Police Commander said police detectives were dispatched to the scene to conduct further investigation into the incident.

“We are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Acayo’s death. We urge anyone with information to come forward.” Oyesigye told URN in an interview Wednesday.

This is the second time within a week that a body has been found in Kitgum District.

Last week, a 22-year-old senior five student of Kitgum High School identified as Daniel Ocira was found dead at Acutomer B, Cell in Kitgum Municipality. Three people have since been arrested by the police in connection to his death.
