Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances under which a Subaru driver rammed through the gate of the City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago’s home.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Oweyesigyire, the accident happened on Saturday at around 7pm when a vehicle, Subaru silver in colour with plate number UAJ 704K, allegedly lost control and rammed into the residence of the Lord Mayor along Lukwago road in Mengo, Lubaga division.
He says that Old Kampala Police Station registered the accident and responded, hence establishing that the vehicle had two occupants, the driver identified as Fred Kiwewe and a passenger who was only identified as Mariam.
Oweyesigyire says that Mariam sustained minor injuries and is admitted at Mulago hospital, while Kiwewe, the Subaru driver is now detained at Old Kampala police as investigations into the matter continue.
The Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago took to his social media platforms reporting about the accident he described as weird and horrible. He wrote that an “overhasty” and “reckless” driver rammed through the main entrance to his house, forcing the gate to open before ramming into at the entrance to the sitting room.
“The huge bang shook the whole house and the children who were watching soccer in sitting room started wailing,” wrote Lukwago, adding that the family was safe although some members were gripped by nervous shock.
“I’m yet to understand the cause of this bizarre incident which has badly ravaged my home!!. We’ve called police who are yet to arrive,” concluded Lukwago.
