The warehouse owner fled into hiding and is still at large. Police are yet to arrest any suspect in connection to the same. The cement was allegedly robbed from a trucker who was driving from Busia border enroute to Jinja city via the Musita-Lumino highway.
The driver, whose identity has been withheld told journalists that he was intercepted by two armed men at a fake roadblock in Musita trading center on Saturday night. They alleged forced him out of the truck, confiscated his phone, and handcuffed him.
He said that the gunmen who were in the company of eight young men locked him up inside the truck and confiscated the container keys before they started offloading the cement into a waiting numberless truck, which later sped off towards Iganga.
Mayuge District Police Commander, Bashir Siriba, says that the driver was first seen by traders around 3:00 am and they alerted the police. He says that detectives inspected the scene of the crime and deployed canines, which led them to the suspect’s warehouse.
