Arua, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Security officials in Arua have recovered a gun belonging to a policeman who was murdered last year. The gun was recovered on Sunday from Barifa forest in Arua Hill Division Arua Municipality by a joint team of the police and UPDF.
Corporal Santos Chandwong was on July 31 attacked and murdered by unknown assailants at Ayivuni police post in Arua district where he was serving as the officer in charge.
He was hacked several times in the head and died three weeks after he had been deployed in the area. His gun (AK47) and 50 rounds of ammunition were taken while a police motorcycle and his phones were left in the house.
Josephine Angucia the police spokesperson for West Nile says that the recovery of the gun will give the police clues on who could have killed Chandwong.
According to Angucia, the whistle-blower who tipped the police about the gun is a member of a criminal gang whose leader who is currently held in Arua government prison for aggravated robbery and murder.
Following the death of Chandwong, the police in West Nile staked a one million shillings reward for any information that could lead to the arrest of the killers Chandwong.
