Police Recruitment: 69 arrested for presenting forged academic documents

Masindi, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Police in Masindi have arrested 69 recruits for allegedly presenting fake academic documents during the just concluded recruitment exercise.

The recruits were arrested on Saturday after they reported for training at the Kabalye police training school in Masindi district. They reported at the training school between July 13th and July 20th 2024.

Before the recruits could commence training, police initiated a verification team that conducted thorough assessments and verification on their academic documents, and the 69 recruits were found to have presented forged academic documents.

Masindi police was notified and immediately detectives were dispatched to the Kabalye police training school to kick start investigations against the implicated recruits. The detectives arrested all the 69 recruits who presented forged academic documents.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson confirmed the incident to Uganda Radio Network (URN) in a telephone interview stating that, the implicated recruits were immediately whisked to the Masindi central police station where they were detained and charged with presenting fake documents and forgery.

Hakiza says, police has also confiscated the forged academic documents presented by the recruits and that the police will send the documents to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) for thorough assessment and verification by the Uganda police human resource officers.

According to Hakiza, the implicated recruits were later released on police bond on Sunday and sent back to their respective home districts to go and verify their academic documents with the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).

Hakiza has warned all candidates seeking to join the Uganda Police Force to always present genuine academic documents stating that the force will not allow those with forged academic documents.
