Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda’s team to the World Athletics Championships due in London will be confirmed this weekend, following the successful completion of the national championships in Namboole on Thursday.
Moses Kurong’s Police athletics club dominated the two day National Track and Field Championships July 19 – 20 at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Police club’s men got 166 and the women 191 for a 357 total. Stephen Kiprotich’s Prisons were second with 331.
Only one athlete hit the qualifying mark but many athletes tipped to make Uganda’s team having qualified earlier, used the meet to test themselves.
The star of the day turned out to be Abu Mayanja, with a time of 1:45.73 in the semi-finals of the 800m. The qualifying time is 1:45.90 800m.
There was a return to local track events for Moses Kipsiro, who came second in the 10000m.
