PPDA urges Seed school contractors against corruption

Hoima, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority PPDA has asked companies awarded contracts to construct seed secondary schools to provide timely accountability.

The call is especially directed to schools funded under the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers Program (UGIFT).

Dr. Levi Kabagambe,  a Procurement Specialist on the PPDA Board says accountability on all the Seed Schools undergoing construction in the region and the country at large must timely be provided to ensure that value for money is realized.

He urged board members of the PPDA in the Bunyoro Sub Region to monitor the progress and implementation of Seed Schools that are undergoing construction.

He tasked the communities where the projects are being executed to jealousy own the projects and report any forms of corruption and shoddy work.

The PPDA Board members today monitored construction works at Kidukuru Seed Secondary School in Buhanika Sub-County Hoima District which is at a tune of 3.4 billion shillings.

Building of the Seed School that is being undertaken by P and D Traders and Contractors Limited commenced on 9th December 2022 and is expected to be handed over to the government on 9th December 2024.

The Components of the project include the construction administration block, classrooms, staff quarters, a computer lab, a library, and a playground. Currently, the contractor is roofing the structures under the project.

Julius K Ishungisa the Board Chairperson says he is impressed by the construction works taking place at the School and tasked the contractor to effectively respect the timeline given to him by the government to ensure that the project is handed over as stipulated in the contract.

Engineer Martin Ssengendo the site manager says that, currently construction works at the school stand at 69 percent and hopes that they will hand over as per the schedule.

The Executive Director Mid-Western Region Anti-Corruption Coalition, Ismail Kusemererwa who is also a monitor with PPDA in Bunyoro called for transparency in the implementation of the project.
