Christine Anyumel’s Liteside

Any three things we don’t know about you?

When I commit to do something, I eventually fall in love with it and do it with greater passion. I love people which is why I am really forgiving and I also love God.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

I am at a level of self actualisation so seeing other people happy is the base of my happiness. It feels good to work and realise happiness.

What is your greatest fear?

I fear blood despite the fact that I confront it. I think it stems from the fact that I bled for a long time so I can’t stand the sight of blood. Surprisingly, I don’t fear failure because from it I take lessons.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

I have not thought about it.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?

I don’t like people who look down on me which normally happens with the kind of work that I do. I don’t like the feeling of self importance which is a character of some people due to the positions they hold.

Which living person do you most admire?

Joyce Meyer’s story inspires me; I like that she is old and still looks good but she is also a humble woman.

What is your greatest extravagance?

I can spend on any classy or good thing for as long as I can afford. For instance, if I am to have a dress, it has to be really good.

What is the greatest thing you have ever done?

Returning home was one of things that took me time to decide. Finally coming back and setting up HNT was something great because it made me retire earlier by 33 years and I don’t plan to be employed elsewhere.

What is your current state of mind?

I am the happiest person.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?

I don’t like the education system in Uganda because it makes us more of job seekers than job creators so people look at being in big jobs as having made it in life. We have a lot of things; for instance research in Uganda is very lacking, so how about when we focus on that than on white-collar jobs. We are gifted by nature but have not reaped from such a blessing. There is, therefore, need for more than just what we get from school.

What does being powerful mean to you?

A person who is powerful is one who can humble themselves to help others as opposed to self serving or expecting something in return from the community.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?

I love everything about me.

Which living person do you most despise?

I don’t despise people.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

God fearing and hardworking.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

A good woman must have more to offer than just sex. She must be God fearing and supportive both financially and mentally.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

My daughter Divine is from me so I love her the most. My mother Grace Ochuli is also a great inspiration for her ability to raise 10 children when father passed on.

When and where were you happiest?

Having a child out of me in 2010 was a moment of joy and happiness. In 2014, when I graduated with my masters was a perfect change of career that has got me where I am.

Which talent would you most like to have?

I wish to express myself through musical instruments, learn some more languages and also be a better counselor.

Where would you most like to live?

There is no country better than Uganda. I love the freedom that allows me do anything without lots of formalities. It’s also my mother country so I never feel lonely at home.

What is your most treasured possession?

There are things about me which I think that if someone took them away, life would never be the same again. For instance breaking me from HNT would be totally breaking me.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Being isolated from people in a place where you are not loved and cannot use your abilities even when you may have the potential.

What do you most value in your friends?

Earning my trust and enjoying their company.

Who are your favorite writers?

I like reading but I am not attached to any particular writer so I read anything inspirational to learn a thing or two.

Who is your hero of fiction?

I am not into fiction.

Which historical figure do you most identify with?

My father, John Ochuli, may not be a renowned figure but even as a polygamist, he taught me the virtue of love and living with people. He had many children from different women but kept us in touch until today when he is no more.

Who are your heroes in real life?

My mother and brother, Sam Kajoba who helped to take me through school after the passing of my father. My former teacher, Kyobe Mary saw the potential in me and always pleaded for me to study on bursary programme.

What is your greatest regret?

There is a man I loved but regret loving him because it was a bad relationship and some of my health issues started with him.

How would you like to die?

At 100 years plus, I can just sleep and die.

What is your motto?

Trust the Lord and never give up.
