Roofings takes lead in planting trees at Kampala Industrial Business Park 

Anite plants a tree as part of the initiative

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Roofings Group is championing the planting of two million trees in Kampala Industrial Business Park, Namanve.

The Chairman, of Roofings Group, Sikander Lalani said May 31, “Roofings took a bold step to set up in the park 20 years ago. As we launch tree planting, Roofings has a committed team for the regreening agenda, giving out free tree seedlings under the Forever Forestry Initiative.”

In collaboration with the Uganda Investment Authority, Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, and National Environment Management Authority the initiative aims to mitigate the environmental impact of the industries in the business park. The launch event took place at Roofings Rolling Mills in Namanve.

Evelyn Anite, the minister of state for investment planted a tree, as she launched an initiative that she says fosters a culture of corporate responsibility.

“Roofings Group has set a commendable precedent with their Tree Planting Initiative. I encourage all companies to take similar actions to ensure a greener and more sustainable future for Uganda. It is through collaborative efforts like these that we can significantly impact our environment and our communities,” stated Minister Anite.

The Director General of the Uganda Investment Authority, Robert Mukiza said, “We are honored to witness sustainable industrialization in Kampala Industrial Business Park with Roofings as the pioneer.”

The Executive Director, of NEMA, Barirega Akankwasah said, “NEMA has been waiting for such a day to conceptualize the initiative and pledged total support to bring it to life.”

Akankwasah said industrial activities impact the local ecosystems and as manufacturers, it is important to keep the ecosystems alive. As he concluded his speech, he assured Roofings that they should reap good dividends from this investment.
