Rukoki Health Centre IV kicks off construction of maternity ward

Kasese, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The construction of a maternity ward at Rukoki HCIV in Kasese District has been launched.   The project is funded by the government and will be constructed by the UPDF Engineering Brigade at 400 million shillings.

In 2021, a fire gutted the Rukoki Health Centre IV destroying property worth millions of Shillings including beds and mattresses in the maternity ward.

Lt. Thembo Sanairi, the site engineer said construction is projected to be completed within six months.

After the fire outbreak, the health centre struggled to offer services, despite being one of the largest in the district offering complete free medical services including maternity and surgery.

It delivers between four to six mothers per day and handles between 50 to 60 operation procedures a month, according to officials at the facility.
