President Kagame extended an invitation to President Xi Jiping to visit Rwanda.
On his part, President Xi Jiping observed that Rwanda and China had shared 45 years of sincere cooperation, which he said had expanded considerably during President Kagame’s time in office.
“Our two countries must continue to work side by side for the benefit of our people. You are a highly respected statesman in Africa, your country has made great strides in economic and social development and we would like to see greater strides in economic development throughout the continent. China will continue to uphold the principles of sincerity, affinity, good faith and real results as we chart the course of our two countries and the wider African continent, because the world belongs to us all.”
President Xi also encouraged more Chinese companies to invest in Rwanda’s major infrastructure construction projects; especially in transportation, energy, industries, and agricultural modernization.
Xi said China would like to support Rwanda’s construction of Special Economic Zones and offered support for a bigger role for Rwanda in UN peacekeeping activities.
Xi stressed the position he took during his visit to Africa in 2013, to develop China-Africa relations based on “sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith and the correct viewpoint of righteousness and benefit”.
“The essence of such concepts is to closely combine China’s development with helping Africa’s growth, in a bid to realize win-win cooperation and common development,” he said.
Before the talks, Xi Jinping held a welcoming ceremony for Paul Kagame at the square outside the East Gate of the Great Hall of the People. President Xi Jinping’s wife, Mme. Peng Liyuan, Vice Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Shen Yueyue, State Councilor Yang Jiechi, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Wang Qinmin and other people were present.
President Kagame and First Lady Jeanette Kagame arrived in Beijing on March 17 for a two-day visit. They were received by President Xi and First Lady Peng Liyuan at the Great Hall of the People.
