Salaamu Musumba to appear before court on Tuesday

By Julius Odeke

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has expressed their disappointment on how some of their party members were arrested on Sunday Feb. 10.

The Chairman Electoral Commission for the FDC Dan Mugarurua told The Independent “Musumba is likely to be produced before court on Tuesday at the Tororo High Court.”  This is totally unfair to Ugandans why should FDC party members be subjected to that kind of treatment, he said.

Mugarura said that his colleague, Musumba was arrested on Sunday evening on her way to visit her grand mother with some few assortments like salt, sugar, cooking oil and five kilograms of meat.  “How can police say that she was bribing the voters in Butaleja, how can a person of Musumba’s status bribe the people of Butaleja with salt and sugar.

He says, “This is a personal issue between Musumba and Sam Omala who had a confrontation last year at the premises of Dr. Kizza Besigye last year.

Mugarura tried to appeal to the Deputy Chairman Electoral Commission, Joseph Biribonwa saying, “Please do the needful to see to it that my colleague is released. It’s bad if she is subjected to prison life,” Mugarura pleaded.

It was not yet clear what the EC Deputy boss said, however, Vincent Ssekamate says she is at the moment in Malaba police post in custody and will be produced before court on Tuesday. The charge are not yet known.
