Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Sports Club Villa have moved to second place on the Uganda Premier League after registering a 2-0 win against Kirinya Jinja SSS FC at their Masaka Recreation Ground.
The win helps SC Villa close the gap on table leaders SC Vipers to two points. Vipers who defeated Proline FC 3-1 on Tuesday to maintain their lead on the table have 55 points with four matches remaining, while defending champions KCCA FC are third with 51 points.
Martin Kizza made no mistake from the penalty spot to give SC Villa the lead after 8 minutes before George Ssenkaaba increased the lead after 24 minutes. Kirinya Jinja SSS FC, the surprise package team in the League this season who are placed 5th on the log later played tight in the second half to deny SC Villa more goals.
SC Villa have now played two matches without head coach Wasswa Bbosa who was suspended for four games for attacking match officials during a previous League match.
In the other games played URA FC under new care-taker coach Sam Ssimbwa held home side Onduparaka FC to a goalless draw at the Green Light Stadium in Arua. URA FC who have struggled this season are 10th on the log, while Onduparaka FC are fourth.
Masavu FC remained glued at the bottom of the League table after they could only manage a 1-1 draw against visiting Mbarar City FC. Emmanuel Ibe Obina netted for Mbarara City FC before Ibrahim Pengere made it 1-1. Masavu FC’s Philly Lutaaya was sent-off after 73 minutes.
