Hoima, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police in Hoima is holding a security guard for allegedly shooting a suspected thief dead. The arrested security guard has only been identified as Awori, who had been deployed to guard a cattle farm owned by one Manzi Tumubwine in Kibaali village, Buraru sub-county in Hoima district.
It is alleged that on Sunday night at around 11:30 pm, six suspected thugs armed with pangas raided the farm and attacked Awori with an intention of disarming her and stealing the cattle from the farm. They allegedly grabbed her but in self-defense, she discharged a bullet that hit one of the thugs.
The yet to be identified thug died on spot, while his accomplices fled the scene. The body of the deceased was later picked up by security personnel and taken to Hoima city mortuary for postmortem.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson says they picked the security guard who is currently detained at Hoima Central Police Station to help police with investigations adding that the gun used in the shooting of the suspected thug has been exhibited.
According to Hakiza, by Monday afternoon, no one had yet come to claim the body of the suspected thug who was gunned down by the security guard.
