Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A security guard has been arrested for allegedly shooting to death a boda boda rider at Equatorial Mall in Kampala on Monday night.
The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire identified the suspect as Morris Opedunu attached to Pinnacle Security Company, who was guarding one of the banks at the Mall.
According to eyewitnesses, the unidentified cyclist was seen in a quarrel with Opedunu, who allegedly had refused him to park in front of the bank premises. When the cyclist allegedly hurled insults, Opedunu shot him. Owoyesigyire says that the victim died as he was being rushed to hospital.
Police was later forced to use teargas to disperse angry boda boda riders who were blocking the police from taking the body to the city mortuary at Mulago.
The suspect’s firearm with 4 rounds of ammunition and one cartridge were recovered at the scene of the shooting.
Opedunu is currently detained at Central Police Station-CPS on charges of murder.
