The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) released the Uganda Certificate of Education results on Feb. 7 at statistics house in kampala.

According to the UNEB executive secretary, Matthew Bukenya, the UCE examinations were conducted successfully with no leakages and few cases of malpractice.

Statistics indicate that of 268,906 candidates who registered, 267,987 sat for the examinations hence indicating a decrease in the number of students that appeared  for the examinations compared to those of 2011.

Girls continued to perform better than their male counterparts in English language and literature in English  while the male candidates performing better in the other  subjects.

The UNEB chairman Fagil Mandy attributed the decline in perfomance to poor time management by both the teachers and students.  Fagil continued to urge school head teachers to add co-curricular activities to their school programmes.

The minister of education Jessica Alupo called upon UNEB to withdraw centres for those schools that were involved in exam malpractice.

Bukenya encouraged those that did not do well to try again for better grades next time.
