Sironko, Bulambuli LC V chairpersons shun Inzu Ya Masaba consultative meeting

Mbale, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Sironko District LC V Chairperson, Livingstone Giruli and his Bulambuli counterpart, Anent Nandundu skipped a meeting convened by the Bugisu LC V Chairperson’s Forum to find a lasting solution to the dispute over the leadership of the Bamasaba Cultural Institution alias Inzu Ya Masaba.

The LC V chairpersons were expected to convene at Sironko district head offices together with the head of the 26 clans under the institution under the leadership of Manafwa LC V Chairperson, Hosea Kigai Kimono. However,  Livingstone Giruli, the Chairperson of the host district, and his neighbor, Anent Nandundu conspicuously skipped the meeting.

Addressing journalists shortly after the meeting, Kigai expressed disappointment about the absence of the two chairpersons yet they were the host chairpersons. According to Kigai, they invited the chairpersons in writing and followed up with phone calls. However, Sironko LC V Vice-chairperson, Lydia Gimono, says that they were not aware of the meeting.

She explained that her boss was unable to attend the meeting since it was illegal, adding that all leaders who attended the meeting were bent toward one of the contenders for the position of Umukuka. Speaking about their deliberations, Kigai said that they had resolved that Mike Mudoma, one of the contenders for the position of Umukuka be gazetted by the government.

John Defasi Wabuya, the chairperson of 26 clan chairpersons across the Bugisu region later read the resolution of the meeting stating that as Bamasaba clan chairpersons and LCV chairpersons from the Bugisu region, they have resolved that Mudoma be gazetted the third Umukuka.

Muhamed Mafabi, the LCV chairperson of Mbale district, said that they intend to forward their resolution to the Ministry of Gender Labor and Social Development. Jackson Wakwaika, the LCV chairperson of Namisindwa district, said the disputes between Mike Mudoma and his rival John Amuramu Wagabyalila have cost the Bamasaba.

Geoffrey Wepondi, the Prime Minister of the Masaba cultural institution has referred to the resolutions as null and void and urged Bamasaba to not pay attention to them. He adds that according to the constitution of the Masaba cultural institution, a Cultural leader is elected by delegates from all 26 clans but not chairpersons.
