South Africa’s former finance minister set for Joseph Mubiru lecture

The Bank of Uganda has set Aug.2 as a date for this year’s Joseph Mubiru Memorial Lecture which will be held on Friday, August 2 at the Kampala Serena Hotel, starting at 2.00pm.

An official statement signed by the Director for Communications at the Bank, Jan Tibamwenda, says the Guest Speaker will be Hon. Trevor Manuel, South Africa’s Minister for the Presidency in charge of the National Planning Commission.


Hon. Manuel was South Africa’s Minister of Finance between 1996 and 2009, during the presidencies of Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki and Kgalema Motlanthe.

In 1997, Euromoney named him African Finance Minister of the Year. Throughout the last decade, he has served at various national and international financial institutions including the Development Bank of South Africa, the African Development Bank, IMF and the World Bank.

Bank of Uganda holds the Joseph Mubiru memorial public lectures annually in memory of his duties as the first Governor Bank of Uganda.
