I stand with Kenyans, urge leaders to embrace dialogue – Uhuru

Nairobi, Kenya | THE STAR KENYA | Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued a statement over the ongoing anti-Finance Bill protest.

The former Head of State shared his condolences with Kenyans who lost their lives during Tuesday’s protest saying  it was their constitutional right to picket.

“I come to you with a heavy heart saddened by the loss of lives occassion by the current situation prevailing in the country. It sis the right of Kenyans to  protest as determined by the Constitution of Kenya 2010. It is also the duty of leaders to listen to those they lead,” Uhuru said,

Uhuru further called for calm and urged leaders to embrace dialogue with the people.

“As your former prsident I have felt the weight of  leading Kenyans. I therefore pray for wisdom and civility to be established and for peace and progress to belong to all of us as the children of Kenya,” he said.

The former President affirmed his support to Kenyans and urged leaders to “Talk to the people and not at the people.”

“I pray for peace and understanding on the part of  each and every Kenyan and for all of us to remember that Kenya is bigger than one of us; there is nothing cast in stone that cannot be changed,” he said.
