State Attorney Sam Tusubira who has been remanded.

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A case of corruption has rocked the Attorney General’s chambers, as State Attorney Sam Tusubira is remanded to Luzira Prison for allegedly soliciting a 100 million shillings bribe from a litigant in a land matter.

Tusubira, 33, employed by the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, was arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and charged with 16 counts of corruption before the Anti-Corruption Court on Tuesday.

He denied the charges sanctioned by the Director of Public Prosecutions Jane Frances Abodo before Grade One Magistrate Esther Asiimwe.

According to court documents, Tusubira reportedly solicited the bribe from  Ronald Yawe,  who had sued the Ministry of Lands and the Attorney General over the irregular cancellation of his land title.  Of the said 100 million shillings, Tusubira allegedly received  43,660,000 as “facilitation” to procure consent from the Attorney General.

The prosecution says Tusubira received several bribes to handle and manage Yawe’s case between October 2023 and January 2024 which was pending before the High Court.

His arrest followed a complaint filed by Yawe with the Attorney General’s Chambers, alleging that Tusubira took his money but later refused to pick his calls and failed to assist him in getting compensated.

Tusubira has been remanded to Prison until August 19th 2024 for Prosecution which was represented by his colleagues in DPP’s chambers to respond to his bail application.
