Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Director of Public Prosecution-DPP has slapped fresh charges of child trafficking against two Kaweesi murder suspects.
They are Sheikh Abdu Rashid Mbazira 58 a resident of Namasengere Village, Kyampisi Sub County in Mukono District and Higenyi Aramaathan Noordin alias Taata Abdullazack, 34 a money Changer from Busia Dembe Tree Market Square and a resident of Mawero EAST Zone Busia District.
On Wednesday they appeared at the Mukono Magistrates Court where they were charged with six counts of Aggravated Trafficking in Children and Conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act of 2009.
Prosecution alleges that the suspects and others at large between 2016 and March 19th, 2017 in Busia District transported, transferred six minors and hid them in Mukono District for the purposes of exploitation.
The minors three of them were aged three including one girl, while others were boys aged eight and 11 years.
The suspects were however not allowed to take plea to the charges against them since they are capital in nature and attract a maximum death sentence upon conviction.
The Mukono Chief Magistrate Juliet Hatanga mentioned their charges until April 29th, 2019.
This was after the State Prosecutor Jonathan Muwaganya told court that investigations into the matter were incomplete and asked court to remand them till then. The accused that were in court were represented by Lawyer Anthony Wameli.
Mbazira and Higenyi were arrested in 2017 after the death of former Assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
Kaweesi was gruesomely gunned down in broad light on March, 17th, 2017 together with his bodyguard Kenneth Erau and his driver Godfrey Mambewa.
The suspects and eight others who had been in the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence were in May 2017 arraigned at Nakawa Chief Magistrates Court in Kampala charged with the Murder of trio.
